Governor Kathy Hochul Meets with Filipino American Community Members in 'Little Manila' Queens

By Deirdre Levy

For the FIRST time in New York State history, Kathy Hochul, the state’s first woman Governor, met with members of the Filipino community in Little Manila, Queens at Amazing Grace Restaurant.

Different questions were asked that came from the Philippine Nurses Association, Filipino Americans Against Asian Hate Network and one last question from me - the special education teacher who is following up on the call to action from the Filipinos Rise Up rally - providing accessible AAPI curriculum and focusing on bringing Filipino authors, especially those in New York State into our schools. Our stories are important and it’s crucial for the next generation to know them. Some books that were shown were from @ubebooks @fiercefilipina @daphnepalasia

Our next goal along with project barkada  is to get more Filipino books by Filipino authors to MORE teachers this FALL, especially with the looming budget cuts that are expected to happen for the @nycschools. We hope that you can continue to join us in making sure that our stories are told in classrooms.

Governor Hochul was accompanied by Steven Raga, who is the state assembly candidate for NY district 30. Mr Raga organized the meeting. -Ed
