Philippine Consulate in New York Repatriates Two Nationals in Distress

NEW YORK  – The Philippine Consulate General in New York facilitated the repatriation of two Overseas Filipinos (OFs) in distress back to their homes in the Philippines.

Ms. Shane Carnecita, Registered Social Worker of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), welcomed the two repatriated Filipinos upon their arrival at Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Consulate, through the help of charitable organizations and professionally trained volunteer social workers, provided temporary shelter and welfare assistance to the two Filipinos who found themselves in highly distressed situations. The Filipinos reached out to the Consulate after they exhausted all means at their personal disposal. The Consulate, in turn, conducted welfare checks and ascertained their status as distressed overseas nationals requiring repatriation in accordance with relevant laws, rules, and regulations of the Philippines and the United States of America.

They were met by social workers from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas and officers from the Philippine Bureau of Immigration upon arrival at NAIA. The Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of Migration Affairs and the Consular Office in General Santos City, provided invaluable assistance and guidance in ensuring their safe return.    

The Consulate expressed its sincere appreciation to all private partners who provided assistance to ensure the safe, orderly, and regular repatriation of the two Filipino nationals.
