Opinion: Fil Am Community Activities in NJ/ NY Resume After Pandemic; Bye Face Masks By Manuel L Caballero

On My Watch

By Manuel L. Caballero

After almost two years of no community parties or parades or concerts, Filipino American organizations are back in banquet halls of hotels and restaurants eating and dancing. Perhaps, a big chunk of earnings of certain hotels in Frontage Ave. in Elizabeth, NJ  and Queens, NY come from Filipino groups.

PIDCI and PAFCOM are done with their three successful hotel gatherings each and colorful parades last June and July.

Nanding Fernando Mendez  and Laura Garcia's Annual People's Ball will be held on Sunday, August 14 at Marriott, Newark, NJ. This yearly gathering of FilAm VIPs is perhaps, the most elegant and sought for party in the Fil Am community.

The Philippine Fiesta will now be held at the new American Dream Mall on August 20 at 10 a.m. in East Rutherford, NJ.

Last Sunday, some 400 devotees of Our Lady of Manaoag tendered a testimonial dinner to welcome and honor the Archbishop of Manila Archdiocese, Cardinal Jose Advincula of Capiz. There were dancing and lots of picture-taking with the Cardinal who is qualified to vote for a pope and to recommend to the Vatican priests to become bishops.

Even the global Catholic-based Couples For Christ (CFC) USA has resumed its mission activities outside the US. Last weekend, its Central America Mission Team led by Roger Santos  conducted a conference of 1,000 people in La Paz, El Salvador.

ANCOP USA Walk, headed by Jojo Reandelar , begins on August 14.

Let's all be thankful to our good God that He has restored  normalcy in our health and in our lives after those difficult and tense months.

Ingat pa rin tayo.
