New York – The Philippine Consulate General in New York hosted a Focus Group Discussion on “Insurgency Situation in the Philippines and Other Updates” on 28 February 2020 at the Philippine Center New York’s Kalayaan Hall.
Hon. Antonio L. Bautista, Assistant Secretary for Human Resource of the Department of National Defense (DND), discussed the current security situation in the Philippines. He also shared the government strategies in combatting insurgencies such as building
more infrastructure projects in order to reach remote areas. He added that development and progress are the best weapon against insurgency.

Assistant Secretary Bautista was joined in the forum by AFP officials MGen. Adriano Perez Jr., Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel; and BGen. Jeffrey Hechanova, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans. They are in New York to attend meetings in the UN. The officials emphasized the importance of the whole-of-nation approach in ending local communist armed conflict as established under EO No. 70.
Members of the Filipino community in the US Northeast as well as NYPCG and NYPM officers and staff attended the event. Consul General Claro S. Cristobal facilitated the
discussion.
