UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK – Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Antonio M. Lagdameo welcomed visiting students from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, which comprise the country’s delegation to the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York being held on 3-7 April 2023. The nine-member UP delegation joined Philippine officials and personnel of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and the Philippine Consulate General during the flag raising ceremony held at the Philippine Center.
“We are proud of our young Philippine representatives to the simulation exercises of the UN. It is indeed an excellent opportunity to develop their skills in diplomacy, negotiations, critical thinking, public speaking, and writing and research,” Ambassador Lagdameo said.
Ambassador Lagdameo commended the students for their valuable work as members of the Model United Nations - UP Diliman.
At a briefing with the UP students, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative Ariel Rodelas Peñaranda spoke about the role of the Philippines in the United Nations and the Philippine foreign policy towards this international organization founded in 1945 and is now composed of 193 member states.
