Labor Trafficking Victim Grateful for Financial Assistance from the Philippine Government

New York –Deputy Consul General Kerwin Orville C. Tate handed a check in the amount of US$1,000.00, as financial assistance from the Philippine Government to Overseas Filipino Worker Ms. Lea Fe Abarcar Obillo on 29 August 2019 at the Philippine Consulate General in New York (PCGNY).

Ms. Obillo is a victim of labor trafficking. Her case is currently being handled by a Boston- based non-government organization. PCGNY is closely coordinating with Ms. Obillo and the organization to resolve her case.

Aside from Ms. Obillo, other victims of labor trafficking were also granted financial assistance. Ms. Obillo expressed her gratitude to the Philippine Government and PCGNY saying that the “amount would be of big help to me and my family in Iloilo.”
